In planning this adventure, Monica and I have given some thought to how we can "give back" to people and places that will touch us on our trip. We hope that through personal interaction both our children and ourselves will see and learn how we can share our good fortune.

We hope that from an emotional first reaction we will develop a longer term commitment involving both our financial resources but as equally important our time. We encourage suggestions in particular as relates to our intended route.

One learning child ... One connected child ... One laptop at a time ...
The mission of One Laptop per Child (OLPC) is to empower the children of developing countries to learn by providing one connected laptop to every school-age child. In order to aid that admirable goal and in our own small way we have purchased a dozen XO laptops on Ebay and intend to distribute them to schools along the way.
